
Out of the 31 rigs on 31 sites, 24 rigs are actually drilling; the rest being either in predrill phase, workover, or completion. The current rig activity is the most robust since crude oil prices inched higher than $50 a barrel in late 2016, but it is 20% lower than it was in May 2014, when a total of 39 rigs were deployed in the Niger Delta.
At that time, only four Nigerian companies were active with the drill bit.
